Lorraine set me up with an easel in the backroom by the window, with an old blanket down to protect the carpet. She brought it back from one of her […]

The day before they let me out, a man came to see me. I was sort of half-dozing at the time – not really asleep as such, but I’d found […]

The voices are hushed and anxious, zoning in and out, blurring into the background music of bleeps and clatterings. They come and go, sometimes saying strange things. One in particular […]

Chaps! Chaps!! Chaps!!! @chapschoir are celebrating 10 Years in June, at which point I’ll have been part of the gang for 6 years… it’s hard for me to put into words what a special & important part of my life this has been; the joy of singing with others, the pride when we do well (and keep gradually getting better!), the excitement of hearing Dom’s latest beautiful arrangement… but more than that, it’s been a welcoming, supportive, inclusive space with men who are open, kind, funny and interested in exploring emotions… Dom has created something really special with Chaps Choir that I love being a part of … and, not wanting to appear immodest, but we actually sound really good! So, come and celebrate with us on Saturday 17th June in Farringdon - it will be a fun! - link via the Chaps socials/website ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 It’s 15 years since lovely Stephen left a hole in the world… he was a wonderful friend, talented poet and artist, genius mix-tape maker and the first boy I ever kissed… the time I knew him is now eclipsed by the time he’s been gone, but he lives forever in my heart, reminding me that shy lads can be rebels too. I think about him every time I get the 54 bus; those journeys back from the gay youth group in Woolwich where we met, filled with conversations about books, song lyrics and semi-serious debates about who was cooler, Kirsty MacColl or Debbie Harry. Stephen cut his own hair, had his own style, seemed meek but jumped over ticket barriers with no prior warning when he was skint; he was his own person, a gentle soul, much missed… Love you always SteVi x From my walk home yesterday at #twilight - I love the feeling as the light fades Celestial support for our progressive Scottish cousins So much in this beautiful book resonates with me - on grief, depression, self-critical tendencies - but despite embracing an exploration of dark times and feelings, it’s also very funny and quietly poetic as it makes the case for self-acceptance and feeling the sadness rather than trying to mask/eat/exorcise/exercise it away… I’m sorry that I didn’t treat the cover with more #Delicacy Got papped by @hannahjonesxxx on #NewYearsDay / birthday walk with @usherchic2 @passthechaaps & @mistersamjones (and Wren the #workingdog on her day off) in Oxleas Woods - obviously we also had a mystery to solve led by Sammy in his #deerstalker Dad singing ‘Meet on the Ledge’ with The Flying Bricks. It’s been a year… grief isn’t linear, but it’s a milestone it’s hard to ignore. Dad is around me all the time - literally on the walls with his art, and in my thoughts. So many things remind me of him. Recently in my dreams he has been a younger version of himself, more in focus than he was these last few years - but until the end he knew himself and was surrounded by love. It’s a precious thing, worth so much more than money - I know we were lucky to have him, and he was lucky to have us - it was a thing we built together as a family that’s still there, which he’ll always be part of. I do bloody miss him though. Autumnals in #KelseyPark 🍂 #autumn #autumnal #sundaystroll TONIGHT! @chapschoir’s #BraceYourself finally returns to @bgwmc - tickets £10 on the door - it will be FUN! 📸 by Tom Chaplin (not that one) from a previous Brace Yourself, at which I look concerned about the presence of brass instruments; I’m assured there will be no trumpets tonight, just plenty of HOT CHAP ACTION* (*singing) 👯‍♂️👯‍♂️👯‍♂️ as well as some cabaret-style hijinx, beautiful DJs and general merriment… join us! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
